An Interview With Ed Brown

Tell us what you do for a living.

I am a Sales Consultant at the Change Organisation.

Why are you the right person for this job?

I think that my job is essentially to make my customers happy and because that is my primary consideration in the day to day business that I do then the rest falls into place around it. I think that when that becomes your prerogative then trust is built and business grows based on that.

What gets you up in the morning?

The impending start of the working day. If work started 30 minutes later I would get up 30 minutes later – I am not a morning person.

What helped you get to where you are today?

A combination of determination and necessity.

What is the best or worst business advice you have received?

I don’t tend to think about the bad advice I have received. In terms of the good advice ‘Treat everyone with the same respect that you want for yourself’ stands out.

What advice would you give to someone starting out today in IT?

To someone starting out in IT today I would tell them not to listen to any kind of negativity and that there is always an opportunity to succeed for someone willing to put in hard work.

What’s running on your smartphone?

Whatsapp, Steam, Robot Unicorn Attack

Tell us something most people do not know about you?

I wanted to be an astronaut and at this point in my life I want to earn enough to buy my place on a spaceship.

What goal do you have to achieve before you die, and why?

As above, my goal is to get to Space. It’s the next big adventure for humanity and I don’t think it’s silly to say that anymore because the rise of commercial space enterprises such as Virgin Galactic are giving consumers the chance to be a part of the industry.

What is the best book you’ve ever read?

Hard to say because I’ve read a lot of books but maybe Oryx and Crake (story about a world destroyed by genetic engineering).

And the best film you’ve ever seen?

Gattaca

What would be your Desert Island MP3s?

Since I’ve been loving you (Live 1973 performance) – Led Zepplin
Comfortably Numb (Live @ Pulse) – Pink Floyd

What temptation can you not resist?

Food.

What was your first car and how does it compare with what you drive now?

It was a 1998 Reneault Clio and honestly doesn’t feel that different to the Fiesta I’m driving now.

If you could be any animal for a day, what would you be and why?

Probably a dolphin because being underwater is a completely different experience of the world.

If you could take part in one event in the Olympics, which would you choose and why?

Shooting. Since as far as I know it doesn’t require and special cardiovascular or physical strength.

If you were facing awesome peril and impossible odds, which real or fictional person would you most want on your side and why?

Superman – because as bland as the choice is, it just seems that I could then relax and say “job done”.

Who was the last person you hugged and why?

My wife – the reason why is because she is my wife.

Have you ever met anyone famous, if so how?, if not who would you like to meet?

I don’t think that I have ever met anyone famous and I am quite fickle but currently it would be Elon Musk.
