An Interview With Jim Cannon

Tell us what you do for a living.

I am Returns Manager for The Change Organisation Ltd.

Why are you the right person for this job?

Because I am able to cope well under pressure and I relish the challenge of keeping the customer happy when they are faced with a potentially worrying situation.

What gets you up in the morning?

Two things; my beautiful family and the knowledge that I will be coming in to work with the best bunch of people I could ever wish to work with.

Who helped you get to where you are today?

My father, who instilled into me a great work-ethic and morals and knowledge that everything in life is earned and not just given to you on a plate. Also my mother who proves that you can be a genuinely nice person and still be a great success in the workplace.

What’s running on your smartphone?

My smartphone is running Facebook (because I am extremely nosey) and Scrabble (because I’m 37 going on 60)

Tell us something most people do not know about you?

When I was a junior I was ranked No.1 in Kent at Table Tennis.

What goal do you have to achieve before you die, and why?

I have already achieved it; Marriage, children, great friends and a job that I love

What is the best book you’ve ever read?

The Time Travellers Wife. This book has a fantastic premise and doesn’t disappoint.

And the best film you’ve ever seen?

Forrest Gump. Brilliant storyline, brilliantly acted. Huge fun and heart-wrenching at the same time. Its brilliance doesn’t dissipate even after 50+ viewings.

What would be your Desert Island MP3s?

I am an obsessive music fan and could list a great many but, above all,…… anything by Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Ryan Adams (that’s Ryan not Bryan!).

What temptation can you not resist?

Coffee and cigarettes…..unfortunately.

What was your first car and how does it compare with what you drive now?

My first car was my father’s 1994 Volvo 240 DL. I now drive a Kia Schuma 1.6l SL, but I would prefer to have the Volvo back!

If you could be any animal for a day, what would you be and why?

I would be a whale, as I love the sea and because my wife keeping moaning that I need to put on some weight, so her husband spending a day at a weight of 2500lbs would put a stop to her complaining.

If you could take part in one event in the Olympics, which would you choose and why?

Table Tennis would be the obvious answer, but otherwise I would choose sailing due to my love of the sea.

If you were facing awesome peril and impossible odds, which real or fictional person would you most want on your side and why?

Peter Kay, as I would want to go out laughing. I imagine he would still be cracking some great one-liners even with death approaching.

Who was the last person you hugged and why?

My Step-son, Jack, when dropping him off to school this morning.

Have you ever met anyone famous, if so how?, if not who would you like to meet?

No I haven’t but I would love to meet David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, who seems to be a genuinely down-to-earth guy and just maybe he could teach me to play the guitar.
